I now have access to Voyager software. Making use of it, I tried to check the movement of Mars from Magha onwrdas for 'Vakra' and 'apasavya' movement. Readers are invited to take a look at the power point presentation I prepared.
One can see that Mars crossed the Ecliptic twice and also underwent the normal Retrograde-prograde movement at Chitra -Swati. Mars however did not cross Ecliptic at Magha or Jyeshtha as mentioned in Mahabharat but at other locations on the ecliptic.

Shri. Prabhakar Phadnis ji,
Great work. Can you give us deatils about the location from which this Mars movement was observed?
The location is Delhi. Like Oak I have assumed that Vyasa and Bhishma and Karna and others were observing the sky at Kurukshetra. So Delhi, available on Voyager was the choice. Shri. Oak has also used Delhi
All slides show position of Mars with reference to the Ecliptic. So they are really true for any location. Being a planet, Mars moves along the Ecliptic crossing it from time to time.
